The fifth-generation Giant Defy Advanced Pro is a performance-oriented endurance road bike that prioritizes structural simplicity over mechanical complexity. Introduced for the 2024 model year, this ground-up redesign sheds weight and improves pedaling efficiency while retaining Giant’s signature approach to comfort: engineered carbon flex. Rather than relying on heavy shock absorbers or pivots, the frame and contact points are tuned to dissipate road vibration naturally.
This generation broadens the bike's capability with increased tire clearance, now accommodating up to 40mm rubber for riders venturing onto rougher pavement or light dirt. Visually and aerodynamically, the chassis is modernized with a fully integrated front end that routes cables through the stem and head tube. It is built for the serious distance rider or gran fondo participant who wants the vibration damping of an endurance platform but prefers the crisp, communicative ride of a traditional road racing machine.

| Stack | 558mm |

| Top tube | 545mm |
| Headtube length | 150mm |
| Standover height | 762mm |
| Seat tube length | 480mm |
The fifth-generation Defy Advanced Pro features a slightly sportier geometry than its predecessor, bridging the gap between a traditional upright endurance fit and a dedicated race posture. Giant reduced the head tube lengths across the size run, resulting in a marginally longer reach and lower stack. This encourages a more aerodynamic, forward-leaning position that still stops short of the aggressive drop found on the brand's pure climbing or aero bikes.
Handling is dictated by a relatively steep head angle and seat tube angle, which keep the steering sharp and the rider positioned efficiently over the bottom bracket. This geometry requires a bit more rider attention than a lazy, raked-out touring frame, but it pays dividends in cornering precision and descending stability.
At the cockpit, the integrated AeroLight stem routes cables internally for a clean aesthetic, while the proprietary D-Fuse carbon handlebar is shaped to flex downward under impact. The bar also incorporates a modest flare in the drops, providing a wider, more stable stance for the hands when navigating fast descents or rougher road surfaces.

The current lineup is represented by the premium Defy Advanced Pro 0 build, which pairs the second-tier Advanced-grade composite frame with a top-tier Advanced SL-grade composite fork to balance chassis stiffness and front-end compliance.
This model is equipped with a complete Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic groupset, delivering precise shifting and reliable hydraulic braking. Giant adds significant out-of-the-box value by including a dual-sided Giant Power Pro power meter integrated directly into the Ultegra crankset, a feature often reserved for aftermarket upgrades.
Rolling stock consists of Giant’s own SLR 0 40 Carbon Disc WheelSystem, a mid-depth carbon wheelset that balances aerodynamic efficiency with crosswind stability. These are wrapped in 32mm CADEX Classics tubeless tires, which maximize the frame's vibration-damping qualities and provide ample grip on varied road surfaces. The build is finished with Giant’s proprietary D-Fuse SLR carbon seatpost, which utilizes a distinct D-shaped profile to allow engineered rearward flex, further isolating the rider from harsh impacts during long days in the saddle.

Technical editors widely praise the Defy Advanced Pro for delivering a highly efficient, race-adjacent ride that avoids the sluggishness often associated with the endurance category. By omitting heavy suspension mechanisms, Giant has created a platform that climbs exceptionally well and accelerates with immediate purpose. Reviewers note that the frame's "unobtrusive carbon flex" (Granfondo) effectively mutes harsh road chatter without isolating the rider from the tarmac, resulting in what is described as a "pure road bike experience" (Giant-bicycles).
The primary tradeoff for this lively character is a steering response that leans heavily toward the performance end of the spectrum. While some testers found the front end to be "quick and responsive, making the bike a stunning descender" (Giant-bicycles), others cautioned that the handling can feel demanding for less experienced riders. One review explicitly noted that "tight corners and quick direction changes take some getting used to" (Granfondo) compared to more relaxed, ultra-stable cruisers.
Despite this sharper steering, the consensus points to a highly capable machine across varied surfaces. The stock high-volume tires and compliant chassis keep the bike planted on broken pavement, and testers found it entirely at home transitioning from smooth roads to light forest trails. Ultimately, it earns a reputation as a fast, communicative distance bike that rewards active piloting.
