Diem
Introduced for 2025, the Orbea Diem is a premium urban electric bike designed for daily commuting and city utility. Built around a distinctive hydroformed aluminum frame and a rigid carbon fork, the platform prioritizes integration and low-maintenance reliability over traditional suspension. The signature design element is the Diamond Glide frame, which isolates the seat tube to introduce a degree of vertical flex.
Powered by Shimano mid-drive motors and featuring a low, sloping top tube, the Diem is positioned as a high-performance alternative to bulky cargo bikes or basic city cruisers. It suits dedicated commuters who want a sophisticated, highly integrated tool for navigating traffic, carrying moderate loads, and riding year-round. Standard equipment across the generation includes a comprehensive lighting package, custom fenders, and a rear rack, establishing the Diem as a complete ecosystem for the serious urban rider.

| Stack | 649mm |
| Reach | 454mm |
| Top tube | 634mm |
| Headtube length | 210.6mm |
| Standover height | 700mm |
| Seat tube length | 490mm |
Fit and geometry
The Diem places the rider in a semi-upright posture that balances clear visibility in traffic with an engaged, forward-leaning stance. This geometry keeps weight distributed evenly, preventing the front wheel from wandering while maintaining enough leverage to maneuver quickly. The low, sloping top tube provides generous standover clearance across all four sizes, making it easy to mount and dismount when the bike is loaded with cargo.
Handling is heavily influenced by the wide 720mm flat handlebars. This width provides excellent leverage and stability for cornering at speed, though it requires extra spatial awareness when filtering through dense, stationary traffic. The steering geometry, paired with the rigid carbon fork, yields a responsive front end that reacts quickly to rider input. Additionally, the inclusion of a dropper seatpost on select models significantly alters the urban riding experience, allowing riders to lower the saddle at stoplights and plant both feet flat on the ground without dismounting. A built-in steering block prevents the handlebars from over-rotating, adding stability when parking or loading the front rack.
Builds
The Diem lineup is split into three tiers, available in either 20 mph or 28 mph configurations. The entry-level Diem 30 uses a traditional Shimano Cues nine-speed derailleur drivetrain and a standard chain. This build represents the strongest value for riders who prefer the tactile feedback and simplicity of mechanical shifting.
Moving up to the Diem 20 introduces a low-maintenance Gates carbon belt drive paired with a Shimano Nexus five-speed internal gear hub. This setup eliminates chain grease and reduces routine drivetrain maintenance, making it highly practical for daily, all-weather commuting.
The flagship Diem 10 upgrades to an Enviolo Automatiq continuously variable hub, which shifts gears automatically based on rider cadence. The 10 also includes a suspension dropper seatpost and steps up to four-piston Shimano MT420 brakes, compared to the two-piston MT200 brakes found on the lower tiers. All builds share the same core aluminum frame, carbon fork, integrated lighting, and 50mm tires. Notably, the bikes omit a traditional digital display, instead providing a minimalist handlebar controller and a stem-mounted smartphone bracket with an integrated USB-C charging port.
Reviews
Reviewers consistently praise the Diem for its agile, responsive nature in heavy traffic, noting that the motor integration and weight distribution make it feel surprisingly nimble. The bike accelerates quickly and maintains speed well, with testers highlighting how easily it navigates tight city streets. Handling is frequently described as precise, allowing riders to "chuck it about" (Autotrader) when navigating obstacles. At higher speeds, the chassis remains highly composed, tracking cleanly through sweeping corners without speed wobble.
Opinions diverge sharply on the frame's ride quality over rough surfaces. While Orbea designed the frame to flex and absorb vibrations, several testers found the ride "rather stiff" (Downtown-mag) on cobblestones and broken pavement. The lack of active suspension means the bike relies heavily on its high-volume tires to mute road chatter. Consequently, reviewers suggest running lower tire pressures to maximize comfort.
The drivetrain options also draw mixed reactions. The traditional derailleur and internal hub gears are widely appreciated for their direct feel and reliability. Conversely, the automatic shifting system on the flagship model frustrated some riders, with one tester calling the initial setup "unnecessary faff" (T3) and noting a disconnect between pedaling effort and actual speed. Despite these critiques, the consensus points to a highly refined, "purpose-driven machine" (GearJunkie) that excels on paved commutes.
