Lumen eRIDE
The Scott Lumen eRIDE is Scott’s lightweight e-MTB interpretation of the Spark rather than a scaled-down full-power trail bike. Introduced for 2023 and carried forward on the same core platform, it pairs 29in wheels and 130mm front/rear travel with TQ’s compact HPR drive system, a 360Wh internal battery, and optional 160Wh range extender support. The defining feature is the integrated rear shock layout, hidden within the frame and accessed via a hatch near the bottom bracket. That packaging lowers the shock position, keeps the frame silhouette unusually clean, and helps free enough room in the front triangle for two bottle mounts or a bottle plus range extender—still a rare practical advantage in this category.
In use, the Lumen sits squarely in the light-assist segment for riders who want an e-bike that preserves much of an analogue trail bike’s weight, handling, and pedaling feel. Scott leans heavily on its TwinLoc system, giving Descend, Traction Control, and Lockout modes to broaden the bike’s range from efficient climbing to light-trail descending. Geometry is modern but not extreme, with a 65.5° head angle and adjustable headset cups to shift that by ±0.6°. The result is a bike aimed less at replacing a long-travel e-enduro machine and more at serving fit, active riders who prioritize speed, responsiveness, and low system weight over maximum power and downhill margin.
Reviews
Reviewers were broadly aligned on the Lumen’s core character: it is one of the most convincing light e-MTBs for riders who want a bike that still feels close to a conventional mountain bike. Tredz described it as feeling like a regular XC/trail bike with the added sensation of having “the legs of an XC racer,” while Flow Mountain Bike praised its sporty handling, poppy suspension, impressive climbing ability, and unusually stealthy integration. Across the wider test feedback, the low claimed weights—15.5kg for the top 900 SL and around 17.8kg for the 910—were central to that impression, giving the bike a quick, energetic feel that stands apart from heavier full-power e-bikes.
The strengths repeatedly cited were its efficient climbing position, quiet and natural-feeling TQ HPR50 motor, and the way the Spark-derived chassis rewards pumping, cornering, and active riding on flowing trails. At the same time, reviewers were clear about the tradeoffs. Flow called out a budget spec for the price on the 910, flimsy tire casings, a busy cockpit, heavy wheels, and more involved shock and cable maintenance. Enduro and others noted that while the bike is very light and highly integrated, it is also expensive, and several testers felt the 130mm travel and stock component choices leave it short of composure and durability when trails get rougher or speeds rise. In short, reviewers saw the Lumen as a highly distinctive, fast light e-MTB with real strengths, but one that makes the most sense for sporty riders on smoother terrain rather than riders seeking maximum descending capability per dollar.
