The 2024 Giant Trance X marks a substantial reset for Giant’s mainstream trail platform rather than a routine update. The non-electric Trance X moved to an all-new frameset with revised Maestro suspension, and rear travel grew to 140mm with a 150mm fork. Giant also spun SX variants from the same chassis by fitting a longer-stroke shock for 145mm rear travel and a 160mm fork, underscoring how broadly this platform is meant to cover modern trail riding. In practical terms, this generation pushes the Trance X further toward aggressive all-round trail use without turning it into a mini-enduro bike.

What sets this version apart is how much configurability Giant built into the frame. A 3-position flip chip at the rocker changes geometry and supports dual rear-wheel compatibility, allowing 29er or 27.5-inch rear-wheel setups depending on configuration, while a headset flip chip adjusts reach across a 10mm range. Giant also added integrated downtube storage and additional frame mounts, bringing the Trance X in line with current expectations for on-bike carrying capacity. Taken together, those choices position it as a highly adaptable trail bike for riders who want one chassis to handle everything from long mixed-terrain rides to steeper, more technical descents, with setup flexibility that is still relatively uncommon at this price-sensitive end of the market.

The Trance X’s geometry reflects a modern trail-bike brief with a useful range of adjustment. In size L, reach spans 476mm, 480mm, and 484mm across the three settings, while the head tube angle shifts from 64.4 degrees in the low position to 65.1 degrees in the high setting. Seat tube angle also changes from 76.8 to 77.5 degrees, chainstay length from 440 to 438mm, and BB drop from 40 to 30mm. Those are meaningful changes: the low setting gives the bike a slacker, more planted front end and lower bottom bracket for descending stability, while the high setting steepens the steering, raises pedal clearance, and slightly shortens the rear end for a quicker, more responsive feel.

Across the size range, the numbers are firmly contemporary without being extreme. Reach goes from 426mm in S to 507mm in XL in the lowest setting, paired with wheelbases from 1190mm to 1281mm, which should give the bike good straight-line composure while keeping it manageable on tighter trails. The steep effective seat angles, up to 77.5 degrees, point to a centered climbing position, helping offset the bike’s slack front end and 140/150mm travel package. The headset-based reach adjustment adds another layer of fit tuning, allowing riders to fine-tune cockpit length by 10mm without changing stems, which is especially useful on a bike intended to cover such a broad range of trail riding styles.
