Crafty
The 2025-on Mondraker Crafty is a full-power 29er e-enduro/trail platform built around 160 mm front and 150 mm rear travel, Bosch’s latest CX drive system, and a substantially revised carbon chassis. Compared with the previous 2020-2024 Crafty Carbon, this generation moves to a new Stealth Air Carbon main frame, adopts a removable Bosch battery system in 600 or 800 Wh formats, and uses updated Zero Suspension kinematics with the shock mounted lower and passing through the seat tube. Mondraker also expanded the size range to five options by adding M/L, while introducing size-specific rear-center lengths: 455 mm on S, M and M/L, and 465 mm on L and XL.
What sets this Crafty apart is how Mondraker has updated its long-standing Forward Geometry concept without abandoning the bike’s core identity. The head angle is now a slacker 64.5 degrees, there is a two-position flip chip for setup adjustment, and the platform remains clearly aimed at riders who want full-power assistance for aggressive trail and enduro terrain rather than a lighter, shorter-travel all-rounder. In the market, the Crafty sits firmly at the premium end of the full-power eMTB category: a high-capacity, long-wheelbase bike focused on technical climbing traction, high-speed composure, and all-day mountain range rather than low weight or playful minimalism.

Fit and geometry
The Crafty’s geometry is unmistakably modern and long, with a 64.5-degree head angle, a 500 mm reach on size L, and a 1314 mm wheelbase in that same size. Stack is also notably tall at 656 mm on L, while the M/L offers a 480 mm reach and 647 mm stack as a useful in-between option for riders who may find Mondraker’s traditional sizing jumps too large. Combined with the -25 mm BB drop and full 29-inch wheels, these numbers point to a bike that prioritizes stability, front-end confidence on steep descents, and a centered standing position over quick, compact handling.
The size-specific chainstay approach is an important part of the fit and handling story. S, M and M/L use 455 mm stays, while L and XL move to 465 mm, helping preserve weight distribution as the front center grows. In practice, that should improve climbing balance and keep the front wheel from getting light on steep pitches, especially on larger sizes. Riders should expect a bike that rewards an active, deliberate stance rather than quick steering inputs alone; the long rear center and substantial wheelbase favor traction and composure, while the tall front end will suit steep terrain but may feel imposing to riders who prefer a lower, more compact cockpit.
Builds
The Crafty range spans six builds from $7,499 to $13,999, and all are built around Bosch power with removable batteries. The entry S ($7,499), R ($8,499), and RR ($9,499) use a carbon front triangle with alloy rear end and all ship with the Bosch CX motor and 800 Wh battery. The RR S steps up to a full-carbon chassis at $10,999 while retaining the Bosch CX and 800 Wh battery, making it the point in the range where buyers move from the hybrid carbon/alloy frame format to full carbon.
Above that, the XR ($12,499) and RR SL ($13,999) switch to the Bosch CX-R motor. The XR keeps the full-carbon frame and 800 Wh battery, while the RR SL stands out as the only listed model with a 600 Wh battery as standard, signaling a lighter, more handling-focused take on the platform. Broadly, the lower three models look positioned as the practical value options with the same core frame concept and full-capacity battery, while the upper-tier bikes charge a clear premium for lighter frame construction and the CX-R-equipped flagship treatment.
Reviews
Reviewers broadly agree that the new Crafty is one of the most accomplished climbing-focused full-power eMTBs currently available. Multiple tests praise the revised Zero Suspension layout for combining very good small-bump sensitivity with a supportive mid-stroke, giving the bike a more energetic, less dead feel than many heavy e-bikes. Several reviewers specifically highlighted how the long chainstays and updated kinematics keep the front wheel planted and the rear tire driving forward on steep technical climbs, with some going so far as to call it the best climbing eMTB they had ridden. The quieter Bosch Gen 5 Performance Line CX system was another recurring positive, with testers noting the near-elimination of motor rattle and a more refined, natural-feeling assistance delivery.
On descents, reviewers consistently described the Crafty as very stable, precise, and confidence-inspiring at speed. The long reach, high stack, and 29-inch wheels give it strong composure in rough terrain, and several testers said the 150 mm rear end feels deeper than the number suggests on bigger hits. At the same time, there was some disagreement about agility. Some found it surprisingly poppy and maneuverable for a roughly 24 kg full-power bike, while others said it can feel tall, top-heavy, and more demanding in tight corners, especially with the 800 Wh battery fitted. Common criticisms focused on setup and stock parts rather than the frame itself: several reviewers recommended using the low flip-chip setting, lowering the cockpit, and replacing the stock 2.6-inch Maxxis tires with tougher, grippier 2.5-inch alternatives to sharpen steering and better match the bike’s descending potential.
