The Specialized Tarmac SL8 represents the brand's current vision of a singular WorldTour race platform, merging the aerodynamic focus of discontinued aero models with the low weight of dedicated climbing frames. Introduced for the 2024 model year, the SL8 is built for competitive racers and serious enthusiasts who want a single bike optimized for varied terrain. The most visible shift from the previous generation is the elongated nose-cone head tube, designed to smooth airflow at the leading edge. Behind that striking front end, the frame profiles slim down significantly, utilizing narrower seat tubes and seatposts to shed weight and add compliance. By focusing aerodynamic shapes only where they matter most, Specialized managed to drop the top-tier frame weight to a claimed 685 grams while maintaining the familiar handling characteristics of its predecessor. It is a highly refined, uncompromising race machine that balances straight-line speed with climbing agility.

Fit and geometry
Specialized carried over the geometry from the previous generation, maintaining the aggressive, race-oriented fit that the Tarmac is known for. The frame features a steep head tube angle and short chainstays across the size run, keeping the wheelbase tight for rapid direction changes and sharp cornering. Riders can expect a long and low posture designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency, which requires a fair amount of flexibility to sustain comfortably over long distances.
Fit adjustability depends heavily on the chosen build tier. The top-end models feature a proprietary one-piece carbon cockpit that routes cables internally. While this setup reduces drag, it locks the rider into a fixed stem length and bar width, making aftermarket fit adjustments an expensive endeavor. Lower-tier builds utilize a traditional two-piece bar and stem, offering much greater flexibility to swap components and dial in the reach. Across all sizes, the frame clears tires up to 32mm wide, giving riders ample room to fine-tune the bike's footprint and handling characteristics for rougher pavement without altering the core race geometry.

The flagship S-Works models utilize the lightest FACT 12r carbon layup and are equipped with top-tier electronic groupsets from Shimano or SRAM, dual-sided power meters, and deep-section Roval Rapide CLX carbon wheels. These builds also feature the integrated carbon cockpit, prioritizing absolute aerodynamic performance and weight reduction.
Moving down the ladder, the Pro and Expert models use a slightly heavier FACT 10r carbon frame. The Pro tier is frequently highlighted by reviewers as the sweet spot for value, delivering near-identical on-road performance to the S-Works but at a substantially lower price. It features second-tier electronic drivetrains, often includes a power meter, and rolls on slightly heavier Roval carbon wheels.
